Remember Mom

It isn't a church holiday. It isn't a national holiday. It isn't a commemoration of some big event in the world. But it is an important day to remember. It is mother's day. Recently, I heard it referred to "Mother's Day Weekend." Wow. A whole weekend. If we aren't careful it might explode to a whole week or a whole month!
Regardless of the time involved here, Mother's Day is filled with sentimentality. It is promoted by florists, resturants, and card companies; and it is valued by moms. It is important that all of us take note of that. Mother's Day is valued by mothers. Therefore, get into the spirit of it.
There are some things that nearly all mothers have in common. Here they are: first of all, mothers are doing the best the can. Mothers today are balancing a lot of stuff all at one time and, frankly, I am impressed! I don't know how they do it.
Secondly, mothers are not perfect. As we get older we really do see the flaws of our mothers. They have hoped that we wouldn't figure them out. But we have. No one has a perfect mother; so if your mother isn't perfect, that is normal.
Thirdly, mothers do it all because they love their children BUT they are telling us that they want to be appreciated. We think, wait a minutes they shouldn't expect something in return if they are doing it out of love. There is some truth in that but love does seek to build a relationship. Moms want to know that we are in this relationship also. So, they do want to be appreciated. Just saying thank you or I love you may be enough; but actions also apply here. Do something also for your mother.
And a word to mothers: your kids are not going to turn out perfect. Stop trying. Love them for who they are; guide them in the ways of God; laugh with them; listen more; and turn them over to God... often.
